June 30, 1933 – April 27, 2024

The morning of April 27, 2024, William Carl Thomsen peacefully passed away at the hospital in Olds, AB.

William was born June 30, 1933, in the farm home of his grandparents, Carl and Nana Christensen. He was born to Danish parents, Einar and Val Thomsen. He later attended Old Hola and Markerville schools.

Through the years he belonged to many groups, to name a few, Air Cadets, Fish and Game, Scouts Canada, Markerville Drifters, and Markerville Curling Club. He loved curling. For many years he farmed along side his father. Prior to Markerville Creamery closure, William drove the cream truck through the west country picking up cream.  William also worked in the creamery at various positions before it closed in 1972.

Always learning, he later took courses that led to his work as a Living Unit Officer in Bowden Institute, where he worked for a number of years.

Although he liked to fish and hunt, in his own way he was a champion of all wildlife, loved nature, built many bird houses, especially for the blue birds. He was interested in taxidermy, often working on birds or small animals who had met untimely deaths. In the past, some of his work has been displayed in Red Deer's Kerry Wood Nature Centre.

With his happy disposition, music was always a big part of his life. He was a popular disc jockey for many years, often driving many miles, playing for wedding dances, and other gatherings, also playing at the Olds and Innisfail Legion among others.

He and his wife, Doreen, loved dancing and found many opportunities for dancing in Kelowna, BC, where they lived for 10 years before recently moving back to Olds in 2022.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Doreen, his son Kevin (Claudia) his sister Mary Glenn and her family Bonny (Sherry), Phillip (Lesley), Brenda (Darcy), Lorraine (Linda), and Adam (Nicole). Also, Doreen's family Brian, Susan (Michael), and Kerry (Sandra) and families.

William was predeceased by step-son Colin.

We will be gathering to remember William's life on June 8th, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Fensala Hall in Markerville.
