John Schmautz passed away peacefully in Olds, AB on February 24, 2024.
John was delivered by his maternal grandmother at home east of Olds on October 22, 1926. John was the first son and third child of Gotlieb and Alvina Schmautz. He grew up and went to school in the Poplar Creek area where he lived for most of his life.
On his 26th birthday in 1952 he married Verna Helwig. They celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage until the passing of Verna in 2011.
John was predeceased by two grandchildren Katelyn Blomgren and Michael Bach, his brother Harvey Schmautz, sisters Lois Morin, Ivy Sumlak, Emma Bauer and Ella Streicher.
John will be missed by his daughters Tammie Schmautz of Lethbridge, Connie Schmautz of Olds, his grandchildren Tanya Clarke, Lacey Meyers, Steven Bach, Mitchell, Gemma and Hannah Blomgren. Six great grandchildren Jared, Braden, Jackson, Darius, Rebecca and Vayda, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on May 11, at 11 am at the Torrington Community Hall with lunch afterwards provided by the Silver Willows.
