VAN ARNAM
It is with sadness but a sense of peace that we announce that Alice Van Arnam (nee Fitzsimmons) passed into the arms of her Saviour on January 13, 2010 at Didsbury, Alberta. Alice was born in Edmonton on July 30, 1925. After Alice's father passed away when she was eight, the family moved to Elk Point, Alberta to live with an uncle. The neighbours had a son about Alice's age, Fred (Bud) Van Arnam, whom she was to marry on March 12, 1946. They spent the next 63 years together, separated only by Bud's passing in August, 2009. Now they are together again. The married couple resided in Montreal, Calgary and Springbank before moving to their beloved farm on the Dogpound Creek near Cremona in 1968 where they resided until failing health required a move to Aspen Ridge Lodge in Didsbury in 2004 and subsequently to Unit 4, Didsbury Long-term Care. Being a mother and grandmother was always the first priority but Alice also taught swimming lessons in Calgary and at the pool on the farm and owned a dry goods store in Cremona. Alice was a multi-talented handicrafter and was known for knitting needles that went faster and faster while watching her kids play school sports. Alice is survived by two sons, Al (Charlene), Charlie (Joanne) and daughter Julia (Ed Scott) all of Cremona and daughter-in-law, Cathy of Vernon, BC. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Tanise Lacasse (Jeff) of Calgary, Chris (Alison) of Cremona, Josh (Chrissy) of Carstairs and Cindy of Vernon, BC, 5 great-grandchildren, sisters in Edmonton and Vancouver and sisters-in-law in Victoria and Edmonton. Alice was predeceased in August by her beloved husband of 63 years, Fred (Bud), by her eldest son, Jim in 1997 and by her brother, Alan of Edmonton. The family will be forever grateful for the loving and compassionate care given to Mom and Dad by the staff at Unit 4, Didsbury Long-term Care. A Memorial Service will be held in the Cremona Congregational Church on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 2 pm, with Pastor Ian Mason officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Unit #4, c/o Rosebud Health Foundation, Didsbury or to the Cremona Congregational Church Memorial Fund. PERSONAL ALTERNATIVE
