SOMERS
On Saturday, February 6, 2010, Amelia Mae Somers of Carstairs, passed away in the Olds Hospital at age 94. She was born on her grandfather's farm near Didsbury on May 5, 1915 to Mose and Ella Snyder, and spent all her life in the Carstairs area. Mae married George (Bob) Somers in 1938, and they settled on the farm where she lived for seventy years. She and Bob had eight children, six of whom lived to adulthood. She was known for her large gardens and beautiful flower beds. Mae was an adventurous woman who fulfilled her life dream by travelling to Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and other places in Canada. Until recently, she was active in her family, church and community, baking for the Mustard Seed dinners, organizing candy bags for the church Christmas program and collecting for the Community Chest. Her family treasures the quilts and crafts she made for them. She will always be remembered for her generosity and friendships with people of all ages. Mae was predeceased by her husband Bob, daughter Lorna, son Graham, and grandson Kent Snyder. She will be greatly missed by her daughters Karen (Peter) Swanson, Elaine Snyder, Sandra Somers and sons Cyril, Keith and Lorne; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews; one cousin; many in-laws and a wide circle of friends. The Memorial service was held at Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church, Carstairs, on February 16, with Rev. Lance Duncalfe officiating. Interment at the Carstairs Cemetery. The family greatly appreciates all those who sent flowers or gifts, and in any way helped during their time of bereavement. In memory of Mae, donations may be made to Bethel Church, RR 2, Carstairs, T0M 0N0, or to the Kidney Foundation. Funeral arrangements by Personal Alternatives, Airdrie.
