JENSEN
Douglas Gunder Jensen passed away at Olds on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the age of 80 years. Doug was born at Mankota, Saskatchewan on Monday, December 23, 1929 the only son of parents Alfred and Carrie Jensen. He graduated from Scott Collegiate High School in Regina. Upon graduation Doug went to work for his father who operated a Ford/John Deere Dealership, this is where he inherited his appreciation for people and his strong work ethic. Doug met the love of his life Gertie when she came to work at the Mankota General Hospital. They were happily married on July 11, 1951. Doug and Gertie continued to live in Mankota and raise their 3 children until their move to Alberta in 1970. Doug continued his passion with John Deere and felt very at home with his newfound farming communities, even instructing Baler School, at Olds College. Doug is survived by two children, Blair (Gloria) Jensen and Anita (Bob) Towns. Left to cherish Doug’s memory are his 5 grandchildren: Jennifer, Crystal, Kyle, Jason (Jamie) and Adam (Cassy); his step-grandchildren: Terry (Tahn), Michelle, Charmaine Towns along with his four step great-grandchildren Graham, Jennifer, Nicholas and Christopher. Doug is also survived by his only sister Joyce (Doug) Bristow of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Doug was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Gertrude, and his son Roger Elie. Doug will always be remembered for his love of a good joke, his friendly smile and his optimistic outlook on life. Funeral Service for Doug was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at The Eagle Hill Memorial Community Centre, with Pastor Ed Peters officiating. Following the service Doug was laid to rest at the Eagle Hill Cemetery beside his beloved wife. Donations in memory of Doug may be directed to The Eagle Hill Memorial Community Centre RR1 Site 3 Box 12 Bowden, Alberta T0M 0K0, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
