Police Briefs Sylvia Cole, Carstairs Courier
Beef and Barley Days
There was one impaired driver in town and people walking around with open liquor. Six violation tickets were handed out.
Overall there were no serious incidents, said Sgt. Jeff Jacobson. Extra members were scheduled to work in Carstairs during the Beef and Barley Days.
“I think the increased visibility helped ensure it was a safe and fun event.”
Rumble goes down in Didsbury “He grabbed a woman by the arm and she started yelling for help,” said Janessa Fehr who saw the event take place along 20th Avenue. Another man intervened, said Fehr and the two began fighting in the middle of the road. The man believed to have stolen the car was thrown to the ground, she said. “People were starting to gather and cars were trying to go around them,” she said. RCMP said the keys were removed from the vehicle when they arrived and the suspect was waiting for police. The male is facing charges of refusing to provide a breath sample and theft of a vehicle over $5,000.
Break and enters in rural areas On July 18 around 10 p.m. police received reports of a break and enter into an old abandoned farmyard site south of Highway 756. Electrical wire was removed as well as other equipment. A suspected vehicle was seen in the area and the officer is looking into getting more details. On July 21 around 9 a.m. a report came in of a break and enter to a building four miles southwest of Didsbury. Office furniture and tools were taken from the building. There are no suspects at this time. RCMP are reminding people in the area, especially in rural areas to keep their eye out for suspicious vehicles.
