INNISFAIL -  Highway 2 just north of Innisfail fully reopened Wednesday evening after a morning semi crash affected both northbound and southbound lanes.

According to a 511 Alberta update issued at 5:35 p.m., the northbound lanes of Highway 2 were all opened to traffic again from the previously overturned semi approximately one kilometre north of the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 590.

According to RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, the tanker truck crashed and rolled over on its side on Antler Hill shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.

“It had been northbound and then went into the centre meridian,” said Savinkoff in the morning, adding his reports at that time did not say if there was any injuries.

One southbound and one northbound lane were affected at that time by the crash. Delays were expected.

By lunchtime, northbound Highway 2 traffic was being redirected onto Highway 590 and Highway 2A while emergency workers removed the semi tractor trailer unit involved in the rollover. A southbound lane was also affected at the time.
