CREMONA - The pre-trial conference for a man charged in the May 2021 death of Cremona-area woman Brenda Ware is scheduled to take place this week in preparation for his trial in January.

Philip Jeffrey Toner, 43, faces charges of second-degree murder, arson damage property, and interfering with a dead body, all from May 5, 2021.

Ware was last seen in Didsbury on May 4, 2021 and found deceased in Kooteney National Park near Radium, B.C. two days later.

Ware lived near Cremona and worked as a hairstylist in Sundre.

Toner was arrested and charged on May 11 and remains in custody.

His trial was originally scheduled to start on June 12 but was adjourned and is now set to take place Jan. 15 to Jan. 26 in Calgary Court of King’s Bench.

A pre-trial conference is a private hearing held between prosecutors and defence lawyers to identify facts that are agreed upon or are in dispute prior to trial.

Toner’s pre-trial conference is scheduled for Nov. 20-24.
