Town officials meet with Carstairs Links residents to clarify proposal
Residents of Carstairs Links got some answers to their questions about what’s happening in their subdivision at a community meeting held on January 31.
Town of Carstairs chief administrative officer Carl McDonnell and director of planning and development Greg Baustad were on hand to supply information to about 36 residents who attended the meeting.
“We went over their concerns and provided clarification,” said McDonnell. “For the most part, we have already addressed these concerns with Brian Conger, the planner and project manager with AECOM.”
Residents were concerned about a letter that was distributed on December 22, regarding a proposed 38-lot subdivision.
Trevor Marshall is a resident of Beckner Crescent and a spokesperson for the group of residents. “We’re very optimistic,” he said. “We believe the town is listening to our concerns, and that’s the biggest thing.
“The only concern we have is the roadway. Everything looks good, apart from the roadway. We want to stay with the original conceptual plan, which brings Beckner Crescent all the way out.”
He added that the residents are asking the developer to stay with the original conceptual plan which was proposed in 2000.
“Lot 24 is currently zoned as Light Industrial,” Marshall said. “We would allow the access right down to Highfield Drive where Lot 24 is. In return, we’re asking them to make it Municipal Reserve.”
He noted that the residents at 835 and 837 would “benefit greatly to have a park right behind their houses.”
The residents have been meeting over the past few months to express their concerns over what was perceived as unclear plans about their subdivision. They have also made presentations to town council.
“The next step is we contact the developer to talk about the last of the concerns,” said McDonnell. “This is just one of the many steps required for development.”
