Temporary sales centres allowed in residential areas
Temporary residential sales centres used by builders for marketing purposes will now be allowed in Carstairs.
On January 23, Carstairs town council passed a motion to amend Land Use Bylaw 941, following a public hearing.
Town administration recommended the approval of amending Bylaw 941 to include “Temporary Residential Sales Centre” as a discretionary use in all residential districts.
“The town was asking for the amendment to this bylaw to allow temporary sales centres to be in residential districts,” said Greg Baustad, director of planning and development with the Town of Carstairs. “We have seen and are seeing developers wanting sales centres in the residential districts to sell their homes in the subdivision.
“This would allow the prospective homebuyer to talk with the developer or home builder one-on-one in the very community that they would be living in.”
A Temporary Residential Sales Centre, he said, shall be defined as a temporary building or structure used for a limited period of time for the purpose of marketing land or buildings.
“The amended bylaw will also allow builders, developers and realtors to showcase to potential homebuyers to see what’s in that subdivision, pick out lots and see the potential of the town,” he said.
An open house was held on January 17. “We had one person who inquired about the application,” Baustad noted.
