ACE plan moving forward
Carstairs residents are invited to bring their ideas and suggestions to the table on Wednesday, Jan. 11 in a followup event that will move the town toward becoming an Active, Creative, Engaged (ACE) community.
“We’re going to share ideas that will make Carstairs a great community,” said Terri Sperle, director of community services for the Town of Carstairs. “This will help us to identify priorities for the community and it will also begin the planning that will help turn these priorities into a reality.”
ACE facilitator Barb Pedersen will be on hand to guide community members through the planning process.
“She’ll help us develop a good plan of attack on how to get ideas going,” added Sperle. “It’ll be a fresh start and we’re confident it’ll be a pretty energetic evening.”
She said that a range of people has committed to the project so far, and she expects that at least 25 residents will be in attendance on Wednesday night.
“We want to harness their energy and start forming committees to get the projects going,” Sperle said. “After this, we’ll get the concrete plans together.
“We’re hoping to move forward with at least three to six solid ideas to start with.”
ACE Communities is an initiative of the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) and is designed to engage residents and strengthen community leadership.
“Active, creative and engaged communities are those that have high levels of active involvement, creativity, social capital and social cohesion,” Sperle said. “They’re communities that contribute to the creation of places, spaces, connections and a culture that enables wide participation.
“This results in productive, healthy, resilient and innovative communities.”
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Carstairs Curling Rink.
