Decent dumplings at new restaurant
Dear Editor:
Re: From Another Country . . . Kitchen
I don’t have to tell you, the reader, how charming it truly is to live in an authentic small town. From Hunter’s to Westcott, we have good home-cooked meals whipped up in country kitchens that keep the working class strong and the passersby amused. It’s no wonder the name works. As a co-owner of a food establishment and a member of the cultural pillar, I would like to personally invite the new owners of the Country Kitchen to town.
My family and I had the pleasure of dining there one evening and it is worthy of the country kitchen title that we hold dear to our bellies. But this is one country kitchen that cooks up delicious dishes from a land far, far away. If you’ve never tried food from Vietnam, I suggest you give it a whirl. I was fortunate enough to visit Vietnam and although it seems like another planet compared to Carstairs, it is a country of hard workers and good cooks. Come to think of it, they seemed to cook all day long and well into the night and have probably been doing so before Canada had pimples!
A few notables include the shrimp rice wraps, decent dumplings and whilst my wife and I enjoyed vermicelli noodle dishes, our boy mowed down a burger that was clearly made from scratch. Friendly, authentic service and a rather impossibly large menu make this place a keeper. Our gracious host said he likes the town and people so much that he hopes to do well enough to retire here. I say, let’s help him out with that. I think that even the hardcore Carstereos that have been here since the late 1800s (like Dennis Schmick) would appreciate this new country kitchen.
